Feature Basins

A century ago, porcelain vessel basins were a mainstay in every home. KOHLER
echo this history, but with a contemporary, artistic sensibility and modern-day functionality. Some
designs rest on the countertop whilst others are used in self-rimming or undercounter applications.

Provinity Vanity

The Provinity vanity is comprised of European Sycamore, which is visually characterised by contrasting patches of greenish-grey and white bark. Upon harvest, the Sycamore veneers and solids are plane-sliced and contrasted with quartered figured accents. A translucent stain is then applied for a clean, consistent colour that evens out the natural variations of the species.

Cleaning and caring for your whirlpool bath

After each use, clean off any residue in the bath with hot, soapy water and dry with a soft cloth. Jets should be cleaned with a cotton bud or small washing up brush to remove any grime around them. Especially in hard water areas, regular cleaning is essential to prevent the build-up of ugly limescale deposits. Once every 6 weeks or so, clean the jet system out fully using a whirlpool bath cleaner.
  • Fill the bath and run with cold water, with the air control off
  • Run for 10 minutes; ensure the room is well-ventilated
  • Empty the bath and refill and then rinse
This should stop any build-up of bacteria within the jet system and keep your bath and pipework fresh. Don't use ordinary household cleaners or detergents, as these can harm your system as well as your skin.
The real key to maintaining a beautiful fresh whirlpool bath is regular care and prompt cleaning.

Choosing the Right Bathroom Taps

The first thing to consider is budget because taps come in a wide range of prices depending on design and materials used; then decide on style. Contempary taps are designed with clean lines and fewer handles than traditional ones. There are also taps which fit into the side of the bath and require three fixing holes for the two taps and the spout but you will need to have the correct hole pattern drilled or cut into your bath for these.

Taps with zinc alloy bodies tend to cost less but they will corrode over time. In hard water areas the water itself can cause corrosion on inferior metals and the longest lasting taps are solid brass ones. In general it is possible to tell the quality of taps by their weight. The heavier a tap is, the higher the quality.
When you have decided what quality of bathroom taps you want to buy, it is time to select the finish. There is lots of choice here including antique and polished brass, bronze, nickel, chrome pewter, and a number of other materials which are available from various designers.

Fiberglass shower or a ceramic tile shower?

Each has advantages. The fiberglass units are usually less expensive. Because they have few (if any) joints, they are somewhat less susceptible to leaking. Their smoothness makes them easier to clean.... Still, many people prefer ceramic tile. When installed properly, ceramic tile can last for a long time. Many find ceramic tile more pleasing to look at and many people find it simply feels more substantial and permanent. The choice is yours.

What features are currently the most popular in bathrooms

Second sinks are popular because they allow two people to use the bathroom at the same time. Some people are putting in separate toilets and even separate showers. Many people replace tubs with showers. Most people add storage space... and counter space and improve the lighting. Nearly everyone elects to include an exhaust van -- often incorporating a heater on a timer.

Fluorescent Lighting Tips

Fluorescent lighting is more energy-efficient and long-lasting than incandescent lighting, and it offers significant benefits:

  • It economically and comfortably provides the high levels of illumination and bright spaces needed for important tasks.

  • It delivers the intrinsically diffuse lighting quality that is most effective for task lighting.

  • It improves the comfort of spaces by limiting the heat build-up typical with high levels of incandescent lighting.

  • It provides significant economies in energy use and lamp replacement.

  • It supports a sustainable and clean environment by reducing the demands on energy sources, the amount of waste disposal, and the pollution created when fossil fuels are burned to create electricity.

How to choose the right bidet

The Bidet: is a sit-down wash basin that is usually made from vitreous china and designed to resemble the shape of the toilet. It is placed next to the toilet in the bathroom, in order to encourage personal hygiene. It is generally 15 – 15 ½ inches high. A combination toilet/bidet is available if a higher seat is re...quired. There are four basic types of bidets:Over the rim – this is fitted with a standard tap and the bowl is filled with water in the same way that you fill a sink. This is the cheapest and simplest type to install.
Heated rim (flushing rim) – this has hot and cold handles on top but the water enters the bowl beneath the rim of the basin.
Spray – the more popular types of bidets are equipped with a spray which provides a gentle shower. The spray may be vertical or horizontal. The vertical has a fountain jet in the centre of the bowl and the horizontal has a special over the rim spout that delivers a horizontal stream of water.
Combination – some models combine the heated rim and a vertical spray option in the one unit. Bidets come in a range of styles from the traditional to the contemporary. They are designed to complement the toilet. Be aware that a bidet with a wide, rounded ledge is generally the most comfortable. It should be installed so that there is plenty of room at the sides for your legs, and at the back for the knees. This may mean leaving a gap of at least four inches between the wall and the back of the bidet. The bidet allows the user to control the water temperature.
