Semi Recessed Basins and Cutting the Worktop

You may be wondering why you have to cut out the front of your semi recessed basin unit to accept the basin. This is because there are hundreds of different types of basins and they are all very different in shape and size so there is no universal cut size.
All semi recessed basins should come with a template to assist you in fitting it neatly and accurately into your fitted bathroom furniture.
The most common mistake in cutting the fascia to accept this type of basin is to not allow for the depth of the worktop. The template cannot allow for the height of the worktop as the basin manufacturers do not know which type of worktop you are using. It could be fitted into granite, laminate, solid wood, Corian etc and these are all different thicknesses'.
The first thing you need to do is to take the basin fascia off of the basin unit. Then mark the vertical centre line by measuring the width of the fascia and simply halving it. Next you need to measure the height (thickness) of your worktop. Take the front of the basin template and lay this centrally onto your fascia and move it up by the thickness of your worktop and draw a pencil line around the template.

Next you need to secure the basin fascia onto a work bench very tightly and make sure the front of the fascia is resting on cardboard or similar so you don't scratch the face of it. Then simply cut around the pencil line you have previouslly drawn. You should then have you r fascia cut perfectly to fit your basin.
Now for the easy part - the worktop. Take the worktop half of the basin fascia andwork out where the centre line for it will be on your worktop. Take care that you measure where the basin will be fitting into the run of units as a few millimetres out will ruin the worktop. Turn the worktop over and secure on the work benchas before and onto cardboard. Place the template onto the underside of the worktop, draw round and cut neatly.

You should now be all set to fit you fitted bathroom furniture basin. Click here for more details on this semi recessed basin.
